Kindergarten 1, 2 & 3
Children in Kindergarten 1, 2, and 3 (Nursery to UKG) are aged four to six years old and these three grade levels are known as Early Years. Early Years learning at LMEBS follows the curriculum framework which incorporates current research and best practices in early childhood education. Children participate in an inquiry-based program that responds to their academic and developmental needs.
Our Image of the Child
We believe that children are naturally curious and full of wonder, with an innate ability to question and pursue their own learning and research. Our inquiry-based learning environment encourages children to develop these capacities and participate actively in exploring and problem-solving. Our teachers view children as competent partners in the learning experience and understand that each child has a unique pattern of growth and development. We encourage students to develop independence by taking initiative with their own self-care and organization.
The Learning Environment
At LMEBS, our educational values and image of the child are communicated and supported by carefully planned learning environments.
Relationships and Interactions
Our safe and nurturing atmosphere encourages children to build confidence and take risks. We believe that children feel most safe, secure and supported when their sense of shared ownership and belonging is emphasized. Children learn about themselves and the world and construct their own identity within the context of their families and communities. Connections to home and family are viewed as integral to learning and are a visible part of curriculum planning and the environment. Children work together as a learning group, fostering their individual competencies and making collaborative discoveries.
Play
Playing is essential for young children’s cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development. Through play, children express, combine, and extend what they know about the world around them, incorporating their knowledge and skills. Children regularly participate in various kinds of play, which can be either child-led or teacher-initiated.
Elementary School Life
LMBS prides itself on being a diverse, inclusive and vibrant learning community. As a truly caring school, we welcome both children and adults into our multicultural, multiethnic and from different background environment.
The experiences that LMEBS offer our students go far beyond the classroom and our busy Extra Curricular Activities (ECA) program allows students to try new experiences across the fields of arts, sports, sciences, and creativity.
Our focus on each student’s well being is embedded in our Pastoral Program which ensures that every student is given the social and emotional support they require to fulfill their potential. Classes are kept small so that teachers can pay attention to each child under their care.
At LMEBS, our education approach inspires learners to become engaged, socially responsible individuals with an understanding of their responsibilities within their local community and as active global citizens. This is highlighted by the importance we place on student action. Students at LMEBS take action with what they’ve learned and use it to improve both their lives and those of others. In order to come together and celebrate our community, LMEBS has a number of events during the course of the year. These events allow the whole community to celebrate the many things that make LMEBS an exceptional place to live and learn.
MIDDLE SCHOOL LIFE
Students entering Middle School are at an exciting time of their learning. They are becoming more independent in their learning and are developing more responsibility for the outcomes they can achieve. All students at LMEBS receive the physical, emotional and social support that compliments their studies and academic progress. In the Middle School, this support is tailored to the growing needs of students as they begin their pathway to adulthood.
ABOUT MIDDLE SCHOOL
Our Middle School continues to develop the atmosphere fostered in the Elementary School. Our small size allows us to get to know students and parents better, as well as provide more individual attention where necessary.
The Middle School provides students with the opportunity to grow physically, emotionally and academically at a time of real transitions in their lives. This is usually the period of adolescence, where many students need additional support and for some, this can be a difficult period to negotiate. As such, our experienced and energetic faculty endeavors to foster in our students a sense of self-confidence, responsibility, and respect that is an important component of their holistic education. To develop this further, we promote an understanding of personal and social development through our Pastoral Care Programme and Extra Curricular Activities (ECAs) that play important roles in supporting students toward a smooth transition into young adults. Wherever possible, we also provide a learning pathway for students with special educational needs.
HIGH SCHOOL LIFE
Our High School is set to provide an environment to work in a natural environment, where activities are carefully balanced with our continued holistic approach to developing minds socially and emotionally and to empower them for their own learning. The personal development of our students is encouraged with social interaction and responsibility through a range of activities, events and community participation. We have a wide range of Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) events that take place on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis. The opportunities for students to engage in arts, sports, and service learning opportunities are vast and students are encouraged to explore these to develop their interests and skills as communicators, thinkers, risk-takers, and carers, and to perhaps understand more about themselves and the potential they may have. Our Student Council is very active and there are many opportunities for students to join sports or debating teams locally or regionally as well as showcase special talents in areas such as the arts or writing.
Our students’ development into independent, mature, and self-sufficient adults is a key goal within the small, nurturing community here at LMEBS. The support and care students need as they prepare for their next steps are provided in our tranquil environment through the academic and pastoral programs we offer. With our unique location and small size, our community feels like a family, so come and see for yourselves how the events we celebrate help to join us together!
ABOUT HIGH SCHOOL
Our High School develops future global leaders through a sound, vigorous and challenging education. The High School curriculum reflects LMEBS’ commitment to preparing students for the challenges of the 21st century.
Students in Grades 9 and 10 follow the government curriculum to prepare the Secondary Education Examination providing a broad, traditional foundation of knowledge while increasing students’ awareness of the relationships between all subjects and areas of learning. Students are encouraged to question and evaluate information critically, to seek out and explore the links between subjects. As such, awareness and communication skills are seen as essential elements of education in the modern world and are held as fundamental to the LMEBS’ philosophy.
PASTORAL CARE
EARLY YEARS & ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
At LMEBS, we plan for and support learning experiences that enable each student to realize their potential. We believe that the building blocks for success and balance in students’ lives include physical, social and emotional well-being, a healthy and positive disposition, connectedness with others, and self-awareness. Teachers at LMEBS encourage the development of these attributes in students through carefully planned and aligned learning experiences in four key areas:
PERSONAL IDENTITY
Students develop an understanding of their own beliefs, values, attitudes, experiences, and feelings and how they are shaped by them. They explore the impact of cultural influences, the recognition of strengths, limitations, and challenges, as well as the ability to cope successfully with situations of change and adversity. Students inquire into their concept of self and how feelings of self-worth affect their approach to learning and how they interact with others.
BEING HEALTHY, SAFE AND ACTIVE
Our students develop an understanding of the factors that contribute to developing and maintaining a balanced, healthy lifestyle. They inquire into the importance of regular physical activity, the body’s response to exercise, the importance of developing basic motor skills, and understanding and developing the body’s potential for movement and expression. They gain understanding of the importance of nutrition, the causes and possible prevention of ill health, the promotion of safety, and the rights and responsibilities we have to ourselves and others to promote well-being. Students aim to make informed choices and evaluate consequences to take action for healthy living now and in the future.
COMMUNICATING AND INTERACTING
Our students develop an understanding of how an individual and groups interact and communicate with other people, other living things, and the wider world. They explore behaviors, rights, and responsibilities of individuals in their relationships with others, communities, society and the world around them.
ACTIVELY CONTRIBUTING TO COMMUNITIES
Our students are encouraged to be engaged contributors to initiatives that build and optimise the health and well being of their community. Students develop the knowledge, understanding, and skills required to critically analyze the range of factors that influence the health and well-being of their communities. They also learn to assess information, products, services, and environments in order to take action to promote the health and well-being of their communities.
PASTORAL CARE
MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL
The social, physical and emotional well-being of a student is critical for their growth and development. In Middle & High School, each of these important aspects is carefully nurtured.
Students learn about themselves and their responsibilities as members of our community through a range of structured activities and programmes in the following key areas:
ACTIVELY CONTRIBUTING TO COMMUNITIES
Here, adolescents learn how to become active participants in a community and what the value of that commitment means. They learn how to work collaboratively, undertake new challenges and initiate activities to positively influence their environment and community. The value of diversity is also explored through games, activities, and discovery. They develop and contribute to strategies to make the classroom and playground healthy, safe and active spaces.
BEING HEALTHY, SAFE AND ACTIVE
A healthy lifestyle benefits young minds and bodies in many ways. Students learn how to make balanced nutritional choices and understand the benefits of regular exercise. The connection between well-being and regular exercise is explored through activities, goal setting and maintaining the motivation to stay healthy. We explore fun ways to keep healthy and promote active lifestyles as a lifelong experience.
COMMUNICATING AND INTERACTING
Effective communication is a life skill that is actively developed in Middle & High School. Students are encouraged to interact by undertaking challenges in groups, identifying and capitalizing on the strengths of individual members to reach a shared goal. This helps to develop communication skills based on mutual respect, empathy, and compassion.
PERSONAL IDENTITY
Self-awareness and self-worth are essential elements in forming a personal identity. External influences from different cultures and the immediate environment can be positive or lead to conflict or misconceptions if the student does not know how to cope with or assess these correctly. Students are encouraged to develop their emotional awareness in order to help them manage relationships and support their friends and fellow students. The aim is to help them develop a strong sense of self-efficacy to enhance their personal well being
